Anthony Albanese makes wild promise to Fatman Scoop

Anthony Albanese has promised to revisit his DJ roots in a wild interview with Fatman Scoop.

The Prime Minister was doing the media rounds in Brisbane on Thursday when b105’s Stav, Abby & Matt surprised him with the American rapper live on air.

“I have a pattern of dealing with Prime Ministers in this country. So you‘re now the second Prime Minister I’ve spoken to on the phone,” Scoop said, referring to the now infamous (and deleted) video Scott Morrison posted in 2018.

The 11 second meme showed MPs during question time raising their hands to Scoop’s 1999 club banger Be Faithful.

Mr Morrison later apologised for posting the video given the songs sexually charged lyrics but said he was “definitely keen” to attend an R&B Friday event.

But it appears the former prime minister never followed up on plans and the US rapper was not about to repeat the same mistakes with Mr Albanese.

“Who was the first?” Mr Albanese asked back.

“ScoMo. Not working out so well. I don’t think he’s going to answer my phone calls right now. Doesn’t feel like the right time,” the rapper joked.

“Listen, I know you DJ. Now you’re Prime Minister and you’re from the Labor Party. I happen to be the President of the party party.

“Now you have a million constituents that want to see you … You’re going to DJ while I perform.

“All you gotta do is put on a cool shirt, take a shower, pin your laptop. I’m going to show you exactly what to do.”

Mr Albanese laughed off the request to perform at Friday’s Live with Scoop, saying the proposal sounded “pretty good” but he didn’t know what he had planned for November 11.

He noted the class of Prime Ministers who were also DJs was pretty small – just himself and Kiwi Jacinda Ardern.

“Whatever you’ve got to do. Talk to your people,” Scoop said.

“I’ll talk to my people and they’ll talk to your people,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister last year indicated he would be keen to put on a DJ set at RNB Friday Live event previously but was knocked back by the powers that be.

“I was up for it. You offered me a job and then they reneged,’ he said.

But the commercial radio station is not the only outlet the Prime Minister has promised to do a set for.

During the campaign he promised to do a set for youth radio station Triple J if he was elected.

“I don’t know if we need an entire Hack edition to be honest,” host Dave Marchese responded.
