Marty Sheargold to leave Nova’s Kate, Tim and Marty drive show

Nova’s hugely popular Kate, Tim and Marty show is soon to be no more.

The threesome — made up of Kate Richie, Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold — has split up, with Sheargold announcing his departure.

Sheargold originally signed on with Nova in the breakfast slot, alongside Blackwell and Meshel Laurie, before the trio transitioned into the drive show a year later.

Actress Ritchie joined Tim and Marty in 2014 and the three has since become a mainstay of the national radio landscape, coining a unique banter and approach to live radio.

The Kate, Tim and Marty show has remained the number one drive show in Australia for 26 consecutive radio surveys, has scored seven Australian Commercial Radio Awards.

Sheagold said he would leave Nova on September 11.

“I’ve had a fantastic 10 years with the NOVA network, having worked with buildings full of talented and dynamic people,” he said.

“I’d like to thank Tim and Kate for their support of my decision and wish them continued success with the show.

“Now feels like the right time for me professionally to keep challenging myself and to embrace future opportunities with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.”

Nova chief programming and marketing officer Paul Jackson praised the host for his work with the station.

“Marty has had a fantastic 10 year career with Nova, initially in Brisbane breakfast and then as part of the iconic Kate, Tim and Marty drive show,” he said.

While a replacement has yet to be named, Nova have confirmed the company intends to fill the vacant chair and the announcement will come “in due course”.
