Dart Mining says it has encountered notable alteration zones with copper and molybdenite mineralisation following diamond drilling at its Granite Flat copper-gold prospect in north-east Victoria.

The company completed a planned three-hole deep diamond drilling program of 996.8m to test geophysical targets identified last year with further drill testing planned to begin in days.

The program included the deepest hole drilled at the project at a depth of 429m, designed to target a substantial induced polarisation anomaly identified as part of a survey completed late last year.

A second hole targeted another anomaly 1.3km away on the southern side of the project. This was drilled beyond 260m and encountered basaltic dykes carrying disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite.

Dart says both holes intercepted broad zones of chalcopyrite mineralisation and adds further evidence of the scale of the potential Granite Flat resource.

A third hole, drilled to a depth of 299m, successfully targeted a sheeted vein system associated with the intrusion-related mineralisation found across the project.

Dart says the vast majority of core from the latest drilling has been logged and sampled.

The company is expecting a two-month turnaround on results because assay laboratories are experiencing exceptionally high demand.

Historically, the Granite Flat prospect was mined at several small production centres between 1856 and 1918, after an initial discovery identified by tracing the source of alluvial gold in the Mitta Mitta River upstream.
