How Jonathan Brown celebrated his Hall of Fame induction

After being elevated to the AFL Hall of Fame, triple premiership hero and dad Jonathan Brown toasted the achievement in typical fashion. After putting their three children to bed, Brown and wife Kylie got a moment to themselves. “I had a block of Fruit and Nut chocolate and a beer — what a way to celebrate,’’ Brown said. “We put the kids to bed and sat on the kitchen bench. It was a lovely celebration. “I’m in retirement now so I even allowed myself to eat the whole block. No skin fold tests in the morning so all good.” Brown said it was special having his daughter Olivia with him during the Fox Footy telecast. The three-time premiership Lion became emotional when his radio colleagues celebrated his achievements on their Nova breakfast show. “That pulled at the heartstrings. Hearing from the kids, Kyles, mum and dad,’’ he said. “Also lovely to hear from my old coach Leigh Matthews. I always say he along with dad was the biggest influence on my footy career. “You don’t get a chance to reflect often but I’ve had a moment there the last 24 hours to reflect on how lucky I was to have all that family support. “Leigh always said to us, ‘it’s later than you think’. “When you’re 18 you think you’ve got all the time in the world. “But I look back now and think that’s right. I appreciate how lucky I was to be in that era of a great team.” Brown said it was a joy to see his children, Olivia, Jack and Macy, enjoying footy. “(Jack) started playing footy. I said what do you love about it. He said I love how you can crawl around in the mud and get muddy. “I said what about the kicking and handballing part. I remember when I was a young bloke that was the best part in the cold Victorian winters. “Liv is mad for footy. She appreciates the significance of it, she’s a proud child. She’s asking me the same questions about footy that I used to ask my dad.”
