The mother of international music star The Kid Laroi has succeeded in having her conviction overturned and will face a hearing in 2023 over a fraud charge.

Sloane Howard, 51, is accused of using a man’s credit card to purchase cosmetic services worth nearly $850 in Sydney in 2018.

The mother of the teenage music star, whose real name is Charlton Howard, had pleaded not guilty to one count of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception earlier this year.

But when she failed to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court and had no legal representation on July 11, Ms Howard was found guilty and convicted in her absence.

Magistrate Susan McIntyre found the offence had been proven and fined Ms Howard $1000.

She was also ordered to pay $849 in compensation to the business.

The 51-year-old quickly submitted an annulment application to have the decision cancelled.

Ms Howard faced court on Tuesday and Ms McIntyre granted the annulment.

She confirmed her plea of not guilty and is due to face a hearing in the Local Court in February 2023.

Police allege the mother of the pop star used the man’s credit card to spend $850 at the Laser Clinic in Marrickville on August 8, 2018.

It is alleged she committed the offence the same year her then 15-year-old son was gaining recognition for his musical talent as a rapper, singer and songwriter.

Mother and son returned to Australia in late May for the local leg of a world tour.

But the tour was interrupted when Ms Howard had to hand herself in to police over the old fraud charge on May 26 when police executed an outstanding warrant.

In June, high-profile solicitor Chris Watson told the court that Ms Howard had “contractual obligations” for the next six to nine months as she was accompanying her son as he travelled worldwide.

He has also made public his upbringing in public housing and how his family was evicted from a block of units when he was young.

Ms Howard, the pop star and his brother Austin now all live in Los Angeles since he shot to stardom in 2020.

The Kid Laroi has collaborated with Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, recently signing with manager Scooter Braun.
