Albany mums win big at national business awards

Two Albany women have won gold in this year’s national AusMumpreneur Awards.

Thousands of women across the country tuned into a virtual awards ceremony last week to celebrate the success of Australia’s leading female entrepreneurs.

Among the crowd was The Alkaline Cafe director Mel Homewood, who took out the sustainability award for her thriving vegetarian business.

She was also awarded silver in the emerging business category and bronze in the regional business award.

“It made me feel that all the time that I have sacrificed and the passion that I have for what I love doing is getting recognised Australia wide,” Ms Homewood said.

“I hope I’m teaching my children that hard work does get recognised and rewarded. From here, we will concentrate on reducing our footprint even further and continue to give our community that alternative choice.”

Fellow Albany finalist Megan King won the emerging business award for her branding agency, Click Collective.

Ms King said she was “gobsmacked” by the announcement.

“Through tough times, I have made things happen, I have learnt to be more resilient than ever before to rise above and provide for my beautiful children, and show them how to be strong and keep kicking goals even when you are down,” she said.

Be Think Do Coaching founder and director Emily Smith came third in the making a difference award and Natasha Wilson was nominated for her successful IT management and cybersecurity business, Concept Tech.
