Black tie elegance, entertainment and philanthropy converged at the Broome Police Charity Ball earlier this month.

The event on September 13 lit up the Mangrove Hotel to raise funds for three local organisations: the Kyle Andrews Foundation, SAFE Broome, and the Broome Youth and Families Hub.

Broome officer Sgt Cara Ball said it was a fantastic night.

“(It was) a great opportunity for the Broome police station to host an event that has bought the community together to raise funds for three very worthy charities within the Broome Community,” she said.

“We look forward to next year’s event.”

Broome Youth and Families Hub chief executive Melinda Phillips thanked the organisers.

“We are deeply appreciative of the generosity and support shown by the organisers, sponsors, and community members who made this event possible,” she said.

“The funds raised will directly contribute to strengthening our programs and services, allowing us to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we support.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks for recognising and investing in the work we do.”

SAFE Broome volunteer Rhianna Harby said it was heartening to see so much positivity and support for the three groups from police and community members attending.

“SAFE is really appreciative of police support and so grateful of the funds raised to help us continue to operate,” she said.

“We’re proud to have so many officers and their families involved in SAFE in various ways — from fosters to volunteers helping behind the scenes.”

Kyle Andrews Foundation treasurer Lee Anderson said their was no community better than Broome.

“And once again they proved it at the Police Community Charity Ball,” he said.

“The funds we will receive will go towards the costs of Kyle’s Camp 2026 bringing 18-20 kids from the Oncology Ward at Perth Children’s Hospital to Broome for the holiday of a lifetime, to get away from treatment and hospital life for just a little while to make them feel better, as Kyle wished.

“Thank you to all the sponsors, in kind donors who provided auction items and everyone who attended, there was some fast and furious auction bidding! A fantastic time had by all.”
