Bookworms may not be able to access the local library, but a committed team is bringing stories into the homes of children in a fun and amusing way.

Broome Public Library announced last week it would start live-streaming its usual storytelling programs via its Facebook page, enabling the young — and young at heart — to continue enjoying storytime and singing along to nursery rhymes.

The live streams have been taking place each weekday at 10:30am and 2.30pm, along with a special slot at 3pm on Thursdays for the Weekly Lego Challenge.

Shire of Broome president Harold Tracey said the decision to close the library site to enable social distancing was a sensible one but was keen to ensure that as many services as possible were still available.

Broome mum Sarah Owen posted on Facebook as one of many praising the innovation, saying “some great initiative” was being shown by the Broome Public Library staff members.
