Karratha has clean swept the North West Soccer Championships, winning the Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 trophies and not losing a single game on their way to doing so.

Played across three days, teams from across the Pilbara and Kimberley descended on the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre for the round-robin format.

In the under 13s age group, Karratha looked a threat from the get-go, downing tournament hosts Broome One 4-1.

Backing up their performance just a few hours later, the team managed to decimate Port Hedland 8-2.

The Karratha youngsters continued strong form against Newman and Karratha, eventually qualifying for the final against Newman, who won a close-fought semi-final against Broome 5-3, and again winning 5-1.

It was the silver medalists who prevailed in sportsmanship though, with Newman taking out three of four best and fairest medals — Trent Nicholson in U9, Zoe Mitchell in U13 and Yaya Stephen in the 14+ group.

In the U11 competition, Karratha again dominated, managing to win all five games on their way to the grand final, scoring 24 goals and conceding just one.

Coming up against a strong Broome One side in the final, Karratha again managed to hold their opponents goalless to claim the trophy with a 3-0 win.

In the U9 competition, Karratha again proved best, although the town did suffer their one-and-only dropping of points when they drew with Newman in round two of the competition.

When it came to the grand final, facing off against Newman again the Karratha youngsters looked intent on proving a point, scoring three and holding Newman to zero to claim the trophy.

For players 14 years and older a mixed men’s, women’s and juniors side competition was put on.

With some teams pulling out at the eleventh hour, it was just two Broome sides and Karratha competing, with a few Newman teens joining Broome to bolster numbers.

Again, it was Karratha who came out on top, managing to beat both Broome teams twice to claim the title.
