Mandurah issued with two bushfire advice warnings as Perth swelters through another scorcher

VideoA bushfire advice alert has been issued for Erskine in Mandurah on Wednesday afternoon.

As Mandurah woke to its hottest day in December, reaching 31C by 9am, firefighters were sent to two bushfires — one of them near one of the city’s main roads.

Helicopters were seen dousing the fire for around an hour on the south side of Old Coast Road in Erskine, just south of Halls Head, around 1pm this afternoon.

A bushfire advice was issued, with residents in the area were warned of heavy smoke. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

And just before 3.30pm, a bushfire advice was also issued for parts of Coodanup, south of the city.

Both blazes have since been contained and firefighters remained at the scene mopping up and strengthening containment lines.

The temperature reached 34C in Mandurah today, following three consecutive days above 30C.

Those high temperatures are expected to continue over the next seven days, with tomorrow’s maximum to reach 31C for New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Day will be even hotter, with the first day of 2021 getting off to a scorching start with a top of 35C.

Christmas Eve was Perth’s hottest December day, which reached 41C.
