Transperth bus driver who collided with a cyclist in a horror fatal CBD crash will face court

A Transperth bus driver has been charged after a cyclist was killed in a fatal crash in Perth’s CBD in October.

The crash happened just after 4pm on October 6, as a cyclist and a bus were both heading north, entering the intersection at Beaufort and Newcastle Streets.

Police will allege the Transperth bus collided with the 54-year-old man on his bike at the intersection.

St John Ambulance paramedics quickly arrived, but the cyclist died at the scene.

The tragic peak hour crash caused chaos in the city, with the intersection remaining closed for hours.

There were passengers on the bus, but a Transperth spokesman could not confirm how many.

Pharmacy assistant Celine Sceresini said the aftermath was shocking to witness.

“We turned and looked and saw a man crumpled under the bus,” she said.

“There was a big commotion with pedestrians and police.”

The bus driver, a 54-year-old man from Aveley, was yesterday charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and is due to appear before the Perth Magistrate’s Court today.
