Department of Fire and Emergency Service crews were dispatched to the Koongamia house just after 11pm last night.

At least six Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Brigade crews arrived at the single storey Scott Street residence to find it fully engulfed in flames.

A DFES spokesperson said it took firefighters 30 minutes to bring the blaze, which inflicted more than $200,000 worth of damage, under control.

The young couple who lives at the house was not home when the blaze took hold.

DFES this morning had yet to determine the cause of the fire and called Arson Squad to the site.

A WA Police spokesperson told The West Australian that while the investigation into what started the blaze was ongoing, Arson Squad had declared the incident as suspicious.

He added that Arson Squad would continue making inquiries throughout the morning.

More to come.
