Police have arrested a man after a car flipped and fell seven metres before landing on the Kwinana Freeway early Tuesday morning.

The Dodge Nitro had earlier been involved in a two-minute pursuit on Hampton Road in South Fremantle at about 12.30am but police say they abandoned the chase after they lost sight of the vehicle.

The crash happened on North Lake Road in Cockburn shortly before 1am as the car skidded off the road and tumbled down a seven-metre drop onto the north-bound lanes of the Kwinana Freeway.
