Police are investigating a hit and run in Maddington, which resulted in an elderly man being seriously hurt.

The pedestrian had been standing with his bicycle on Weston Street about 11.30am on Monday, April 25, when he was struck by a passing ute that was believed to be loaded with an overhanging load of wood.

Officers from the major crash investigation section will allege the driver did not stop the car, leaving the 73-year-old man behind.

He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John WA.

Investigators are urging anyone who saw the crash, or the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the crash, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online crimestopperswa.com.au.
