A NSW tradie is lucky to be alive after falling 10 metres on to a fence while working on a roof in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to a home in Rydalmere in Sydney's northwest after the 49-year-old man fell from the roof around midday.

The man initially fell on a fence between two homes, before landing on the neighbour's concrete side passageway.

Three ambulance crews and a CareFlight team were able to stabilise the man at the scene, before rushing him to Westmead Hospital with injuries to his chest, pelvis and legs.
