Waroona Show to go ahead

The Ferris wheel will be spinning and the fireworks cracking at the Waroona Show this year, with show organisers on Friday confirming the show would go ahead on October 10.

The show was in jeopardy after the COVID-19 pandemic because of the mass gathering bans and the risk of community transmission, however with bans slowly lifting, show organisers have given the big event the green light.

There was an “overwhelming amount of support” for the show to go ahead from committee members, community members and stakeholders at a meeting last week.

Vice-president Donna Walmsley said there was an initial concern for elderly members organising the show and the possible risks associated for them, however, with WA in good stead, the show will steam ahead.

This year is a very exciting year for the Waroona Agricultural Show — it will be celebrating its 90th anniversary.

“We pride ourselves on holding a very large one-day show where people can get a taste of farm life,” Mrs Walmsley said.

“We will endeavour to have most of our normal attractions back.

“Side-show alley, showbags, locals’ lane, competitions, trade displays, stalls, food trucks, games, children’s activities, horse events, log chops, animals and free entertainment.”

President Eric Walmsley said he was “very proud”. “The team of volunteers have a very busy three months ahead of them,” he said.

Show organisers also confirmed that the Bill Wyllie Memorial Fireworks would be going ahead.

They have also committed to taking extra COVID-19 safety precautions including extra toilets, hand-washing stations and EFTPOS available at the entrance gate.

The Brunswick Show has also confirmed a two-day event on October 24 and 25.
