A couple from Perth’s eastern suburbs have credited Tuesday’s Australia Day public holiday for a life-changing Lotto win.

Their Monday Lotto ticket from Helena Valley Pharmacy & News was the only division one winner from across the country.

The ticket netted them a cool $1 million.

Because Tuesday was a public holiday and they didn’t want to miss out on a ticket for that night’s OZ Lotto draw, the couple picked up their tickets a day earlier.

“I went down to get an OZ Lotto ticket as it was a public holiday on the Tuesday,” the winner said.

“I never play Monday Lotto, but I had some winnings left over from my other games, so I grabbed one.”

It proved to be a stroke of genius.

The winners said they will look after their family with the seven-figure win.

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said it’s been a great start to 2021 for WA players.

“We’ve already seen nine division one prizes go off in WA and it’s still only January,” Mr Mooney said.

“When Western Australians win, the benefits can flow onto the community as our winners tend to share their prizes with family members and friends.

“The next chance for WA players to win is Tuesday’s $30 million OZ Lotto draw.”

Tickets for the draw are available until 6pm Tuesday from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
