Students around the region enjoyed Scitech’s blend of education and entertainment last week.

Kindergarten to Year 6 students learnt about the physical sciences through shows hosted by Scitech’s Jordan Campbell and Zoe Burt.

“I find there is a real appreciation for our visits when we show up, you always feel like a local celebrity when you pull up in the big red truck and all the kids come out, they are so excited to see Scitech and see what we’ve brought to them,” Mr Campbell said.

“Regardless of what it is, everybody is always ready to have a good time.”

Students from Kindy through to Year 3 experienced the Move It show, aimed at demonstrating how objects’ size, shape and surroundings influence the way they move.

Students in Year 4-6 took part in the Prove It show, which encouraged students to explore and harness the laws of physics.

“This tour we are looking at physical sciences, we focus on how to make things move, how we can manipulate forces, how we can change how light works, how we can map electricity,” Mr Campbell said.

“(We are) working out the rules that govern the universe and how they apply to everyday life.”

Kearnan College Year 5 Brody Bachos said his favourite parts of the show were the segment demonstrating refraction using a test-tube and oil and a practical segment where the students tested the properties of materials using a circuit, to see if they conducted or insulated.

Year 4 Lilly Jacob said the show was fun and it was the first time she had seen Scitech.

The show also visited Northcliffe District High School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Manjimup Primary School, Nannup District High School, Greenbushes Primary School, St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School and Balingup Primary School.
