The community has stepped out to help fire ravaged communities on the east coast, raising $3500 as they went.

The Manjimup Fire Relief Run was one of many held around the world on Sunday to raise money for bushfire relief with the cash going to the Red Cross.

Organiser Jodie Pearce said she was inspired to organise the event when she saw the Fire Relief Run website encouraging people to run a virtual 5km to raise money. The website has raised about $600,000 worldwide so far.

“I wanted to do something locally to help out,” Ms Pearce said.

A total of 13 people participated in the half marathon and about 50 people participated in the 5km run/walk.

The fundraiser started and ended at the Manjimup Farmers Markets and was followed up with a sausage sizzle, market stalls and live entertainment from Tracey Barnett after the run.

Another $1073 was raised for Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. from the produce stalls and other donations.
