Shocking footage of a three-year-old girl apparently driving her mother’s car has emerged online.

The clip, filmed in Adelaide, features the youngster on her mum’s lap without a seatbelt while they both grab the steering wheel.

Jokes about doing burnouts and beeping the horn are also heard in the video.

However, the woman was quick to defend the behaviour, referencing similar situations from her own childhood.

“Yeah, I just thought, you know, my daughter might like it.”

South Australian Police said it was aware of the incident, which was posted on Facebook.

The punishment for not wearing a seatbelt in the state is $381 plus a $60 victims of crime fee and three demerit points.

SA Police issued a reminder that children under the age of seven not being in an approved restraint could result in a hefty, almost $500 fine.
