Multiple dry and discoloured sections of the Narrogin track forced the shock abandonment of the last Friday’s thoroughbred meeting.

Narrogin Racing Club was set to hold a seven-race program last Friday but a track inspection just minutes before the running of race one ultimately led to the decision.

Trainers, jockeys and spectators made their way to the track for the meet, however, because of track conditions stewards called the racing off.

The Races WA Twitter page, which delivers news and information for Racing and Wagering WA, posted 15 minutes before the schedule of the first race notifying of an indefinite delay pending a track inspection.

The first race was set to be run at 2.20pm, however, at 2.32pm another tweet notified the public that the meeting had been abandoned.

“Narrogin meeting has been abandoned due to the state of the track,” the Races WA tweet said.

“Decision was made due to multiple sections of the track being dry and significantly discoloured, creating potential safety risks.”

The stewards’ report confirmed the meeting was abandoned due to unsafe track conditions.

“Stewards, together with senior riders conducted a track inspection after areas of concern were identified prior to, and after the crossing, at the 600m and the 350m,” the report said.

“After consultation with senor riders and club officials, stewards deemed the track unsuitable for racing and therefore abandoned the meeting.”
