Four games decided by a goal and two games ended with draws in the UGSHA junior competition

There were plenty of close results in round five of the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association junior competition last week.

Across the nine junior games, four were decided by a goal and two games ended in draws.

In the upper school competition, Eagles defeated Ag Rangers 4-3, with the better players in the win being Stephen Conlan, Kynan Spencer and Lucy Kilpatrick.

Tom Kilpatrick, Harry Dolan and Marcel Corasaniti were gallant in defeat.

Vultures proved too strong for Woodanilling, winning 5-0 with Morne Van der Riet, Takayla Pense and Rohan Annear starring in the win. Frank Mader, Josh Whitehouse and Danielle Evans were solid for Woodanilling.

Collegians prevailed in a tight contest over Toucans, 2-1.

Colby Wisewould, Austin Shotter and Clay Keilar were named in the winners best. Kane Airey, Jason O’Neill and Cohen Sheridan were among Toucans best.

Cougars and Pumas couldn’t be separated in the middle school competition, drawing 1-1.

Guillamme Van der Riet, Flynn Harper and Chase Parsons were in Cougars best while Ryan Johnson, Riley Ford and Reed Lange were Pumas best.

Jonty Bolto, James Shackley and Harrison Willox guided Woodanilling to a 3-2 victory over Tigers.

Devils and Bulldogs drew 1-1 in the J11 competition while Brookton defeated Woodanilling 3-0.

Williams claimed a 3-0 win over Stingrays and Dingoes prevailed 2-1 over Lakers.

Round seven of the senior competition produced top-quality games.

Riffs downed Olympics 3-2 in the men’s A-grade competition with Dane Angwin, Brock Francis and Matt Knott among Riffs’ best players while Shawn Heil, Ben Quartermaine and Nathan Squibb the best for Olympics.

Warriors claimed a 5-1 win over All Blacks as Nick Corner, Matt Hough and Regan Blyth starred in the win and Liam Sweeney along with Sam and Ben Broad battled hard for All Blacks.

In the women’s A-grade, Wagin and Warriors drew 4-4 with Shae-Lee Thompson, Courtney Perkins and Takayla Pense strong contributors for Wagin and Chloe Buzza, Sarah Wiese and Kira Flynn solid for Warriors.

All Blacks won a close contest 1-0 over Williams with better players in the win being Ellie Bigwood, Zeta O’Rourke and Chloe Grout.

Chloe Blight, Fleur Ford and Bonnie Wilson were the best for Williams.

Dumbleyung defeated Riffs 5-1 in the men’s B-grade.

In other games Pingelly downed All Blacks 5-0, Wagin prevailed 8-1 over Olympics 8-1, and Woodanilling finished 6-2 winners over Warriors.

In the women’s B-grade Brookton downed Woodanilling 4-1, Warriors won 2-0 over Robins, and All Blacks defeated Pingelly 1-0.
