Port Hedland and Broome given the all clear

Cyclone warnings for Port Hedland and Broome have been cancelled as the tropical low looming off the northwest coast weakened overnight.

The system is now predicted to only reach a category one cyclone as it makes landfall around eighty-mile beach, bringing heavy rain and winds.

A warning zone is still in place between Bidyadanga and De Grey, with the Port Hedland to De Grey and Beagle Bay to Bidyadanga zones now cancelled.

The low is currently 110km north northwest of Wallal and 240 kilometres west southwest of Broome, moving at 17km per hour.

Gales may develop on the coast between Bidyadanga and De Grey during the afternoon, and may extend into inland parts of the east Pilbara late on Friday or early on Saturday before the system weakens over land.

Heavy rainfall is occurring between Bidyadanga and De Grey and in areas inland from the Eighty Mile Beach, and will extend further towards the southeast during Friday afternoon and evening.

As the system moves to the southeast, heaviest falls will be ahead of the system.

A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Kimberley and Pilbara.

People in communities from Bidyadanga to De Grey need to prepare for cyclonic weather and organise an emergency kit including first aid kit, torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water.
