New water polo season kicks off in Karratha

Round 1 of the Karratha Water Polo Association 2019-20 season started on Thursday evening with lots of new players and old rivals facing off once again.

The women’s B division saw the Kraken/Sharks easily account for the Barracuda/Pirate team, winning 7-1.

Kraken/Sharks players Caitlin Watts and Kelly Newbold scored two goals each, with Jade Adams starring for the Cuda/Pirates team.

The men’s B division saw the same result with Kraken/Sharks beating the Barracuda/Pirates 7-1.

Kraken/Sharks players Rowan Newbold, Brady Newbold and Justin Rees all received umpires’ votes.

The women’s A-grade featured two close games.

Pirates defeated the Barracudas 7-6 in the first, with Pirates’ Portia Angove scoring two goals supported by Kerry Ann Hoff, and Cudas’ Alexis Napranik dominating in goals for her team.

In game two the Cudas beat the Krakens 6-2, with Cudas’ Nat Hayes and Kate Kalajzich contributing three goals each and Krakens’ Courtney Williams scoring a goal

The first game of the men’s A-grade saw the Barracudas beat the Krakens 7-3, with Barracudas’ Rhys Knight voted best in pool followed by Jake Patten and Nigel Kroonstuiver.

The division’s second game resulted in a Pirates win against the Sharks, 10-4, with Pirates’ Justin Angove top-scoring with six goals and Charlie Regan scoring four for the Sharks.

The KWPA welcomes all new players for flippaball on Sunday mornings, juniors training on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 5pm and adults training from 6pm on Tuesdays, all at the Karratha Leisureplex pool.
