A severe weather warning has been issued for parts of Western Australia.

Coastal communities have been urged to prepare for heavy rain in parts of the Pilbara and Gascoyne and severe weather in the South West, including intense winds, dangerous surf and high tides.

The most severe weather is expected to hit late on Wednesday, and ease by Thursday afternoon.

The unseasonal tropical low coming down from the north is also expected to bring rain and windy conditions to Perth on Wednesday and Thursday, which will thankfully ease by the weekend.

Duty Forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology Perth Bob Tarr said a number of factors about the weather system were unusual.

“Winds normally come from the west, but these are northerly winds… they may have a bigger impact on vegetation than usual,” he said.

“Tides are going to be abnormally high across WA’s coast, particularly in Dunsborough and Busselton.”
