Ocean users are being warned to take care after a significant increase in shark activity along Perth’s coast.

Authorities say a white shark has been detected a number of times over the past couple of days by the Trigg, Mullaloo South and North and Ocean Reef shark monitoring network.

Swimmers, surfers and people using the water are being asked to take extra care, especially as beaches are not patrolled full time in the winter.

While it’s not uncommon for sharks to be present off the coast throughout the year, the recent sightings increase the likelihood of encountering a shark in these areas.

The shark smart website shows a whale carcass off the coast of Seabird, however the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development says it’s unlikely this is contributing to the increased shark activity.

If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.
