Bailey David West charged after leading police on a high-speed chase through Kwinana

A 22-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase on January 5 throughout Parmelia and Orelia before he lost control of the car and ran into nearby bushland.

The Regional Operations Group officers were patrolling the Kwinana area when they saw a silver Holden Commodore sedan being driven at excessive speed on Parmelia Avenue in Parmelia at 7.20pm.

They attempted to stop the car but the Orelia man allegedly failed to stop and accelerated away, driving at high speed through several streets.

Bailey David West allegedly drove at more than twice the speed limit in a 60km/h zone before entering a neighbouring industrial area, with a police helicopter took over the chase.

The driver lost control of the car on Rockingham Road in Kwinana Beach, just north of Thomas Road at the entrance to a truck stop, where he abandoned the car on a median island and ran into nearby bushland.

The police helicopter crew tracked the driver’s movements and directed officers on the ground to where he was and arrested him without incident.

The Orelia man has been charged with failure to stop, reckless driving to evade police, no authority to drive, possession of a prohibited drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is due to appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court on March 21.
