A Safety Bay student has been selected as a Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholar for 2022 and 2023.

Safety Bay Senior High School Year 8 student Holly Briggs will now receive a laptop, personal tutoring for English, maths and science, access to an online study help provider, financial support for academic resources, a coach to help use the scholarship and access to other services to improve study skills.

Holly said she was surprised hearing she had received the scholarship, which is given to students judged to have the potential to achieve academic excellence and significant professional success.

“When I first found out, I was quite shocked because a lot of people applied for it, but I have worked hard to get to this point and I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, plus my family are all very proud of me,” Holly said.

“I am looking forward to the tutoring the most. I do have quite high grades, but I am always looking to achieve better.”

SBHS Pathfinder Academic Excellence program coordinator Maggie Speelman supported Holly’s application and said the whole school was proud of her achievements.

“We are so proud of Holly and the contributions she makes to the Safety Bay Senior High School community through our student leadership team and we are ecstatic that this has been recognised by the Harding Miller foundation,” Ms Speelman said.

The Harding Miller Foundation aims to support the education of young women across the country through a range of scholarship opportunities.
