South Australia has recorded two deaths and 4024 new cases of Covid-19, down hundreds from the previous day, but Premier Steven Marshall warns the peak is yet to come.

Mr Marshall, who has tested negative for the virus but is still in isolation after having dinner with his infected daughter, provided an update on Monday via video.

He said the deaths were a man aged in his 90s and a woman aged in her 80s, but he did not provide any other details about them.

The Premier said there had been an uptick in hospital admissions despite a reduction in overall case numbers from 4506 on Sunday.

Mr Marshall said the figures represented a “stabilising” but warned the state was “not at the peak yet”.

“I think the restrictions that were put in place ... are clearly showing that we’ve been able to stop that massive escalation that other states around the country are currently experiencing,” he said.

The Premier said there had been very disrupted supply chains across the country, which SA was not immune to but it had not been as acute as other states.

Meanwhile, a decision on reopening schools in SA will be made on Friday.

“I can tell you though, this will be a disrupted start to the year,” Mr Marshall said.

“We’re in the middle of a very dangerous global pandemic and so we need to be mindful of that.

“We’re going to try and minimise the issues in our state but there are going to be disruptions for day one, term one in SA.”
