Occupational Therapy Week was recently celebrated on October 26 to November 1, with events across Australian community groups and workplaces.

The South West Occupational Therapy Professional Development Group hosted its own celebrations with two events in Bunbury and Busselton, which saw the group’s annual Occupational Therapy Awards event and presentation take place.

SWOTPDG was founded in 1983 with the aim of increasing the opportunity for networking, peer support and professional development events for occupational therapists living and working in the wider South West community.

This year, SWOTPDG hosted the awards at the recently opened Bunbury Garden Labyrinth and sponsored by Unicare Health, Better Life Centre, Cape Abilities and Making Memories with Deb.

The event was led by Bunbury Garden Labyrinth committee members and local occupational therapists, Linda Blyth and Diane Panorios, taking attendees through the labyrinth and exploring the benefits of mindfulness for occupational therapists and their clients.

Afterwards attendees moved onto canapes and drinks at Waters Edge Cafe and Restaurant, where the award of SWOTPDG Life Membership was presented to Deborah Wraight.

Ms Wraight has held positions on the SWOTPDG committee throughout the years and has been a stalwart in the South West occupational therapy community.

A breakfast was also held at White Elephant Cafe during the week for the lower South West members, overlooking the beautiful Gnarabup beach.
