Telethon 2021: Federal Parliament pays tribute to $62 million fundraising effort

Federal Parliament has paid tribute to Telethon’s massive $62 million fundraising effort over the weekend.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese both used the conclusion of Question Time to praise the record-breaking funds raised for sick kids.

Mr Morrison, speaking on indulgence, said: “I want to congratulate all who participated”.

Mr Albanese called out The West Australian newspaper and Seven West Media Chairman Kerry Stokes in particular for the efforts.

“Congratulations to all involved, particularly The West Australian newspaper and Kerry Stokes,” he said.

“I also want to acknowledge Mark McGowan’s Goverment who made a $10 million contribution.

“This is an institution in Western Australia.”

The Federal Goverment pledged $5 million to the telethon efforts.

The $62 million raised, topped last year’s record of $46.3 million making it the 12th consecutive year that Telethon has broken the record set during the previous year.
