The tourist season has been put on hold in parts of the East Kimberley, as repairs continue on severely damaged roads to top attractions.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservations and Attractions last week announced further delays to opening times at several popular sites, including Purnululu and Bandilngan national parks, and Wunaamin and Miluwundi conservation parks.

It’s the second time the opening of Purnululu has been pushed back this season, with its open day now set for next Monday, April 26.

While the western end of the Gibb River Road was given the green light for all vehicles from Derby to Mount Barnett Station this week, all national parks, gorges and stations remain closed.

This includes Bell Gorge, Windjana Gorge, Silent Grove and Mount Hart, which will remain inaccessible until at least mid-May. Boat tours along Geikie Gorge are on track to begin from May 1.
