Kwinana Freeway southbound closed at Nambeelup after serious crash

The Kwinana Freeway was closed for an hour after a serious crash this morning,

Main Roads warned motorists that southbound lanes of the freeway have been closed at Nambeelup, near Mandurah.

The crash is understood to have occurred between two cars. One vehicle has left the freeway and has crashed into nearby bushland.

The WA Police helicopter landed nearby to help with first aid until St John Ambulance and Department of Fire and Emergency Services crews can get to the scene.

St John Ambulance has since taken a woman, aged in her 50s, and a man, aged in his 30s, to Peel Health Campus.

Both patients were transported under priority conditions.

The closed area included a 7km stretch between Lakes Road and Pinjarra Road.

A Police road block was in place, directing traffic away from the scene.

Motorists in the area were being urged to take “extreme caution”.

A second crash was also reported on northbound lanes of the freeway in Perth’s southern suburbs near Success.

Left and right emergency lanes were temporarily blocked in the area and traffic remained congested at the scene afterwards.
