A crash along Mitchell Freeway caused commuter chaos for drivers heading into the city during peak hour.

The crash happened just before 7am in Joondalup, where traffic management blocked the left lane along the southbound lanes near Ocean Reef Road.

Traffic was heavy in the area for just under an hour, with cars bumper to bumper all the way to Hodges Drive.

All lanes have since reopened in the area, with traffic no longer affected by the crash.
