UPDATE: The Mitchell Freeway has been reopened after it was closed earlier today as police dealt with an unfolding emergency.

Motorists were brought to a standstill just before 10am on Sunday after all lanes on the freeway were closed southbound at Vincent Street, causing heavy congestion with traffic backed up to Hutton Street.

Officers from WA Police and the Department of Fire and Emergency attended the incident believed to be related to a mental health emergency.
