Outspoken former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett will be on The West Live with host Jenna Clarke this morning to discuss Melbourne’s move to phase four restrictions overnight.

Parts of Victoria were placed into a “state of disaster” overnight after the State announced 671 new cases and seven deaths.

Restrictions place a curfew on metropolitan Melbourne from 8pm to 5am, with people only allowed to leave their homes to “get care, to give care, or to go to and from work or be at work”.

The Hawthorn president has been one of Premier Daniel Andrews' biggest critic, previously publicly slamming the Labor leader over his government’s handling of the pandemic, particularly in aged care facilities.

But the AFL heavyweight has faced criticism of his own in recent days after the club breached the code’s COVID-19 protocols, which Mr Kennett stated put the game at risk and brought "our club into disrepute".

Later on the show, University of Notre Dame Australia senior lecturer in politics and international relations Martin Drum will join Clarke for the latest on the Clive Palmer border legal battle.

On the front page of The West Australian today, Federal Political Editor Peter Law revealed the Queensland mining magnate didn’t apply to enter WA himself. Instead, Mr Palmer left that job to his pilot, who incorrectly filled in the exemption application.

A political analyst, Dr Drum has worked in the public sector in the past and frequently comments on debates within the Australian political system.

Sunrise Perth correspondent Matt Tinney will also join Clarke to update West Australian’s on the latest news headlines.

After 9am, Ben O’Shea will be back on the podcast to share some quirky stories from across the State in his Wild West segment.
