The driver who died in a horror crash in Cervantes at the weekend has been identified as a 41-year-old father.

Jared Smith was driving his Nissan X-Trail east on Cervantes Road about 4pm when it was involved in a collision with a white Toyota HiLux travelling north on Indian Ocean Drive on Saturday.

He died at the scene.

The driver of the HiLux escaped without injury; however, two passengers, a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, were injured and taken to hospital.

The RAC Rescue Helicopter was called to assist with the injured.

Major crash investigators were today conducting an examination of the scene.
