A teen has been arrested over the stabbing of a bar worker during a fight that erupted at a Sydney pub.

A group of five men became involved in a heated argument with staff at the venue in York Street at Wynyard on Thursday evening.

In the altercation that followed, one man is alleged to have used a knife to stab the 34-year-old employee before the group ran off.

The 19-year-old is yet to be charged by police.

The injured worker was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital with stab wounds to his back and side.

He's in a serious but stable condition.

A 31-year-old man from Carlton was on Thursday charged with assault and affray and a 29-year-old man from Narwee was charged with affray.

A third man, 34, from Ridgewood in Western Australia, was issued with an infringement notice for offensive language.

Inquiries are continuing.
