SNAPSHOT OF ROUND 13 OF THE AFL SEASON

THEY SAID IT: "We sit here saying that was poor as a footy club. The look, the visual of our players.- we didn't look hungry enough. We have to cop that. We didn't make Fremantle earn that victory anywhere near as much as they should have." - Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew was scathing after his team's 27-point loss to the Dockers in Perth.

STATS THAT MATTER: Mid-season draftee Jai Newcombe finished with 14 tackles in Hawthorn's upset win over Sydney, setting a new record for an AFL debutant.

PLAYER OF THE ROUND: West Coast spearhead Josh Kennedy produced a best-on-ground display in the four-point win against Richmond. The two-time Coleman medallist booted 4.0 - including the match-winning goal from the boundary with just 40 seconds remaining. He also recorded three score assists among his 15 disposals.

KEY MOMENT: Collingwood waved farewell to outgoing coach Nathan Buckley in fine fashion at the SCG, upsetting old rivals Melbourne in the traditional Queen's Birthday clash. Buckley couldn't hide his delight at the end as Steele Sidebottom put the full-stop on the win with a goal after the final siren.

TALKING POINT: St Kilda veteran Paddy Ryder was the victim of racial abuse via a social media user, who also took aim at the Indigenous player's mental health. AFL stars were quick to throw their support behind Ryder, with Geelong champion Patrick Dangerfield calling out the offender as a "racist f***ing pig".

INJURIES: Will Hayward (Syd, concussion), Harry Cunningham (Syd, hip), Harry Morrison (Haw, hamstring), Hunter Clark (StK, jaw).

TRIBUNAL WATCH: Adelaide's David Mackay will front the tribunal on Thursday in a significant test case for future head-high collisions. In pursuit of a loose ball, the Crows midfielder sprinted into a contest with Hunter Clark that left the St Kilda player with a broken jaw. The AFL released a statement saying it will argue Mackay engaged in unreasonable rough conduct and should be banned for at least three weeks.

WHAT'S NEXT: The North Melbourne-Brisbane and Hawthorn-Essendon round-14 games have been moved from Melbourne to Tasmania due to COVID-19 crowd restrictions. The match of the round will pit Geelong against the Western Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium on Friday night, but there will be no crowd in attendance.
