Rising WA footy star Luke Jackson will remain at Melbourne until at least the end of 2022 after signing a new deal this week.

Taken pick three in the 2019 AFL Draft, Jackson became the first ruckman taken in the top five since Eagle Nic Naitanui.

Described by many as a young Brodie Grundy, Jackson showed plenty of promise in his first season before a hamstring injury cut the year short.

Jackson joins his Bullcreek-Leeming junior teammate Trent Rivers in inking a new deal at the Dees.

Jackson made his debut against Carlton in round two and went on to play five more games – including rucking solo in skipper Max Gawn’s absence in the win over North Melbourne.

The 19-year-old was the rising star nominee for his two-goal performance against Adelaide in round 10.

The inclusion of ex-Kangaroos forward Ben Brown is expected to help Jackson’s development in Melbourne’s forward line, as he continues to hone his ruck craft under Gawn’s guidance.
