All-Australian defender Brad Sheppard is one of four Eagles to extend his stay at the club until at least the end of next season.

Jackson Nelson, Callum Jamieson and Zane Trew have also put pen to paper, while the club continues to work through a new deal for in-demand forward Oscar Allen.

As reported by The West Australian last week, Sheppard and premiership forward Liam Ryan were in contract discussions with the club when WA’s COVID outbreak hit.

The short-term lockdown temporarily delayed the re-signings, but Ryan’s new deal was announced last week, while Sheppard’s has been confirmed today.

“Brad has been an outstanding player for our club for a long time and it is great to have his contract in place,” list manager Rohan O’Brien said.

“He is also an important part of our group and has great respect across the club.”

Sheppard joined the elusive 200-game club last month and continues to be an ever-reliable tough nut in defence.

The 29-year-old was West Coast’s most experienced defender in last weekend’s derby, with premiership captain Shannon Hurn (calf), Jeremy McGovern (groin) and Tom Barrass (shoulder) all sidelined.

Nelson, meanwhile, hasn’t missed a game this season and has occasionally been deployed in the midfield amid the engine room’s injury crisis.

The 25-year-old has been in good touch in 2021, tallying a career-high 25 disposals against Port Adelaide in round three.

He’s featured in 77 AFL games so far since making his debut in round one, 2015.

“Jacko has added another string to his skillset this year, being able to play through the midfield as well as half-back and provides the match committee with flexibility,” O’Brien said.

“He’s growing in confidence and stature. We see Callum and Zane as exciting young prospects for our club and they have already shown encouraging growth playing with the WAFL Eagles.”

Trew was secured by West Coast with pick 12 in the 2020 rookie draft but is yet to make his AFL debut.

Jamieson is also yet to make a senior appearance for the club after the WA junior was taken with pick 49 in the 2019 Draft.
