Australia has held off a fast-finishing England to secure gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay final.

The quartet of Mack Horton, West Aussie Zac Incerti, Flynn Southam and Elijah Winnington finished in a time of 7.04.96.

Scotland were third.

It rounded out a terrific evening for the Aussies, who claimed five gold in the pool on night four.

An emotional Incerti said it meant a lot after a tough period.

“I didn’t have a great meet,” he said. “Coming in it’s bigger than me and I just wanted to give my best tonight.

“I’m a bit emotional. I didn’t think I could do it to be honest. It means a lot.”

Emma McKeon collected her fourth gold of the Games, the 12th of her stellar career.

Kaylee McKeown won her second gold plus a silver, and para-swimmer Matthew Levy also took out top honours.

Stalwart Levy, a 35-year-old five-time Paralympian, captured gold in the 50m freestyle S7.

Sprint king Kyle Chalmers brushed off talk that he could pull out of the 100m freestyle by taking gold in the event to become the Commonwealth Games champion.

Australia’s swim team now has a collection of 16 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze in Birmingham.
