Trainer Raquel Reid is confident her homebred sprinter Eeyore Wayz can cause a minor upset in Saturday’s $100,000 Ngawyni Stakes at Belmont Park.

Rated a $10 chance in the field of five, Eeyore Wayz is a Belmont 1000m specialist with five wins and two placings from nine starts at the track and distance.

The My Admiration gelding has been in top form this campaign with a victory and two placings, including a fast-finishing third to Position Of Power over 1200m last start.

Reid believes Eeyore Wayz poses a big threat to the three ahead of her in betting, led by quality mare Wilchino, but concedes a heavy track will be a query. Belmont was rated a heavy 8 on Friday.

“I’m confident we can upset the apple cart,” Reid said.

“He’s just a different horse this time around after we tweaked a few things.

“The three main chances will dictate the speed and he’ll be sitting just behind them.

“It just depends how much more rain we get. He’s good in the soft but hasn’t really been on a heavy.

“No matter what, I know he’s going to try his hardest.”

Reid, who prepares a small team at Mundijong, will be chasing her biggest win since claiming last year’s York Cup with Juicing Carrots.

Craig Staples will again ride Eeyore Wayz, who has drawn barrier three.

Wilchino is the $1.90 favourite with Ladbrokes ahead of trainer Luke Fernie’s duo, Spin The Knife ($2.70) and Mervyn ($7.50).

Meanwhile, co-trainers Dan and Ben Pearce hope their decision to extend Black Fantasy’s campaign will be vindicated in a 2100m handicap.

They were set to spell the Blackfriars three-year-old after his Belmont Classic (2200m) victory last start.

“He was about to go to the paddock and then RWWA added this race,” Ben Pearce said.

“It looked a suitable race and he pulled up really well from his last run.

“He’s only been beating three-year-olds, so it will be a test against the older stayers.”

Black Fantasy, who also won the Aquanita Stakes (2000m) this month, is the hot $2.05 favourite.

The Pearces are optimistic they can finish the season on a high with a strong team engaged at Belmont.

“Bird’s The Word was a good winner last start in a maiden against the older horses,” Ben Pearce said.

“I quite like our other two-year-old, Manavendra. He’s a bit raw but he’s got ability.

“Let’s Galahvant and Probity were good last-start winners and should go well again.”

Connections of Searchin’ Roc’s plan to transfer the quality filly to a new stable in a big blow to trainer David Harrison. She has won three features including the Champion Fillies Stakes.
