Perth Wildcats are facing the possibility of having to find two Australian centres for the NBL season after Majok Majok ruptured his Achilles tendon at training.

Majok suffered the serious injury while chasing a rebound. He changed direction and collapsed to the ground despite nobody being near him.

Majok has been ruled out for the entire season and will have surgery on Saturday.

“He grabbed his Achilles straight away,” coach Trevor Gleeson said.

“He’s really popular within the group. He embraced his role, has fun and good humour. He was a really big asset to the team. I’m really disappointed for him.”

The Wildcats have already signed Bryce Cotton and power forward John Mooney as their imports, and had Majok as their only centre. They have an agreement with championship centre Miles Plumlee, but that is reliant upon Cotton receiving his Australian citizenship.

If Cotton remains an import, Perth will either have to find two Australian centres or play with a smaller line-up throughout the season.

The Wildcats also have seven-foot tall Andrew Ferguson as a Development Player, but he is still building his body and isn’t expected to compete against seasoned professionals.
