Scotch College overcame an undermanned-but-spirited Trinity College outfit to claim outright Alcock Cup honours for the third season in a row on Thursday.

Home supporters and students streamed onto Scotch’s playing fields to celebrate another near-perfect season, with the school finishing 11-1 with a 101-point victory — 20.15 (135) to 5.4 (34).

It left Wesley College, who had a bye in the final round, one win away from sharing the title for the second year running.

Scotch were made to work for it early before kicking away after quarter-time, turning a five-point lead into 27 by the main break with a five-goals-to-one second term, and they never looked back.

“They’re a team on and off the field as we saw with some of those goals in the last quarter, it was on the back of team work,” Malaxos said.

“They’ve been a really easy team to coach and the other coaches would agree, they always do all the little things right.”

Trinity, missing three of their best players in captain Jett O’Rourke, Adam De Masi and Xavier Walsh, to injury, fought hard but couldn’t sustain it for four quarters.

Key forward and vice-captain Ed Graham did the damage on the scoreboard, recovering from a wayward start to boot a game-high five majors.

The floodgates really opened in the final quarter with nine goals to none as Joe Matthews, Jaezari Wynne (three goals apiece), captain James Spadanuda and Oscar Dees (two each) joined Graham on the multiple-goalkickers list.

“There’s a couple of really underrated players who could’ve made the State team in Ed Graham and James Spadanuda,” Malaxos said.

Wynne, part of Fremantle’s Next Generation Academy, showed he’s a player to watch with a couple of eye-catching finishes.

Matt Turkich starred in the ruck and gave his midfield brigade of Kalib Dempster-Park, Sullivan Moody and co, while providing plenty of follow-up work himself.

Joe Fonti was brilliant down back, showing courage, reading the play well and rebounding it with class.

For Trinity, Maxwell York showed some fight and kicked a brilliant goal early in the second half, State 16s squad member William Akec did a few nice things in the back half and Tryse Rioli, the nephew of Richmond young gun Maurice, stood tall at both ends.

In other final-round results, Aquinas beat Guildford by 24 points and Christ Church defeated Hale by 47.
