Wesley College have setup a Alcock Cup-shaping showdown against two-time reigning premiers Scotch College next round with a gritty win over an improved Trinity College on Saturday.

Wesley recovered from a double-digit half-time deficit to prevail by 20 points - 9.10 (64) to 6.8 (44) - and move to 8-1 for the season as they hunt their first silverware since 2011.

Just eight points separated the two sides when a lightning strike caused a 30-minute break before Wesley kicked the final two goals of the match.

Will Cassidy had a big say in the turnaround, winning some important clearances and putting his head over the footy, with fellow midfielder Kaleb Smith continuing his strong from after an injury-hampered start to the season.

Aiden O’Driscoll, the younger brother of Dockers pair Emma and Nathan, used the ball well in tough conditions, and Lewis Nannup did a few nice things.

Key forward Xavier Walsh, fresh off an impressive State 16s carnival, was Trinity’s best.

“Trinity were really good and started well, they were at least three goals up at half-time, so we had to claw our way back,” Wesley coach Michael Broadbridge said.

“They’re much improved Trinity as they did really well.”

Trinity take on Scotch (7-1) next Saturday in what will be one of the games of the season.

Aquinas College came away with a 26-point upset win over Hale School in a game that was called off 10 minutes early due to lightning.

Ruckman Darcy Alvaro, who was captain in State 18s representative Connor McDonald’s absence, led the way with a dominant performance in the 9.12 (66) to 6.4 (40) result.

Alvaro not only gave his midfielders first use but also hit the scoreboard with two goals.

Half-back Presley Campbell, part of a strong back six, and winger Mitchell Keene were also important.
