Global sporting powerhouse Manchester United are just hours away from taking on Premier League rivals Aston Villa at Optus Stadium.

The game rounds out Perth’s Festival of Football, and even without star attraction Cristiano Ronaldo, some of the best players from the greatest league in the world have headed Down Under.

Here are five Manchester United and Aston Villa superstars to watch tonight:

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United)

He’s a towering full-back and an aerial presence, but watch for Wan-Bissaka’s bombing runs down the right touchline.

The Game AFL 2024

The 24-year-old is part of an incredible production line of English right-backs playing at top-six Premier League clubs and signed with United after starring at Crystal Palace in 2019.

His Old Trafford stint hasn’t lived up to expectations just yet, but he’s got a massive ceiling as a top-flight wing-back.

He’s travelled to Perth before too and a starter the last time the Red Devils hit Optus Stadium before he’d played a Premier League game for them.

Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa)

Another of England’s home-grown production line of exciting defenders, but Tyrone Mings had to do it the hard way — leaving Southampton’s academy as a youngster to play non-league football.

Villa’s captain’s armband is still up for grabs and Mings is right at the front of the queue.

Unlikely to be given the freedom to play out from the back with dare as he likes to do given the weather, but will be crucial in minding Rashford and Sancho.

The imperious Spanish goal-keeper is still among the best in the world and his handling and work in close will be at the fore in the mud tonight.

Has so often been linked to a move away from Manchester but has stuck fat with the club and remains comfortably its first choice stopper.

Raphael Varane (Manchester United)

Varane is a France World Cup-winner and a four-time Champions League winner with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

He moved from one iconic club to another before last season despite some injury concerns and played 28 times for the Red Devils.

Missed Tuesday’s friendly with Palace in Melbourne and is expected to have a final hit-out before Brighton on matchday one.

The hot-and-cold striker has been in and out of favour both with managers and fans at Old Trafford for years now, but is still only 24.

Could be playing for his United future again this season after scoring just four times in the league last season, despite an interrupted campaign, even after one of his best years at the club.

Is still such a strong presence in the box though and has been one of the faces of United’s Aussie sojourn again.

Phillipe Coutinho (Aston Villa)

The Maracana, Anfield, Camp Nou and now Optus Stadium.

A fleet-footed attacking midfielder, Coutinho was once a Liverpool starlet who almost helped the Reds to a breakthrough Premier League title, in a midfield trio with now-manager Steven Gerrard.

A stint at Barcelona hasn’t been quite as successful, punctuated by loan spells at Bayern Munich and now Villa, but he rediscovered his mojo towards the back-end of last season and is crucial to the Villans’ European dreams.

Coutinho turned his loan move permanent at the end of last season.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

United’s Portuguese midfield maestro, Fernandes will lead a new-look United in the middle of the park without Paul Pogba who returned to Juventus this off-season.

One of the best passers in the league, watch for his composure on the ball and directing traffic in midfield.

Will take a penalty too if the opportunity arises.
