The Serie A clash between Lazio and visiting Torino has failed to go ahead as the coronavirus-hit Turin side did not show up at the stadium.

In bizarre scenes, bemused Lazio players walked on to the pitch at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday without knowing their Torino opponents were isolating far away.

Serie A's governing body held an emergency meeting earlier in the day but voted not to postpone the match.

The situation was similar to that of the Juventus-Napoli match in October, when Napoli didn't show up.

Napoli was handed a 3-0 loss by the league and docked one point but eventually had that overturned on appeal, with the match to be rescheduled.

Torino already missed the weekend's game at Sassuolo as Turin's health authorities ordered them to be in isolation until midnight Tuesday.

The Serie A moved Torino's match against Sassuolo last weekend to March 17, but has not yet ruled on the Lazio clash.

Meanwhile, Sampdoria have gone into isolation after reporting a positive coronavirus case ahead of their clash with cross-town side Genoa.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sampdoria did not specify if a footballer or a member of staff had been affected.

The club is scheduled to play a city derby against Genoa on Wednesday.
