The Stingers will play for fifth place in women's water polo at the Tokyo Games, prevailing 14-12 in a penalty shootout win over Canada.

Scores were locked 10-10 at fulltime before Australian goalkeeper Lea Yanitsas made two sharp saves in the shootout.

Zoe Aracini scored five goals in total as they overcame the disappointment of a 9-8 quarter-final loss to Russia.

They will play the Netherlands on Saturday.

Gold medallists in Sydney 2000, Australia finished sixth in Rio 2016 after claiming bronze in the previous two Games campaigns.
