As Cat Dole reached the end of the aisle and laid eyes on the love of her life, she could barely contain her excitement.

The West Coast Eagles were going to the grand final.

“We were watching the prelim as we were getting ready and we knew they had won just before I made the walk,” Mrs Dole said.

“It wasn’t the end of the game but it was clearly in the bag, so you can imagine the conversation we had when I got to the end of the aisle.”

The Kalgoorlie couple tied the knot last week at Noble Falls Estate in Gidgegannup on the same day West Coast thrashed Melbourne at Optus Stadium.

Few things in life could keep Mrs Dole and her husband, Rob, from attending a home preliminary final featuring their beloved Eagles.

“We were probably more nervous about the football than the ceremony,” Mr Dole said.

“There was very little phone reception at the venue but we had a Makita radio from my dad to listen to the footy while we were waiting for Cat to arrive.”

As you might have gathered, the Doles are diehard fans. They drive seven hours from Kalgoorlie to watch every home game.

Their wedding was a West Coast Eagles feast.

There were groomsmen in blue and gold ties, champagne flutes adorned with the club logo, a cake with blue and gold layers — even the rings were presented on a football. The newlyweds left the reception to Daddy Cool’s Eagle Rock.

“Obviously the day was going to be amazing anyway, but what happened with the football just made everything come to life,” Mrs Dole said.

But this story gets better.

Back in April, they decided to plan their honeymoon around the AFL grand final.

Despite their lifelong football fanaticism, neither of them had been to one. Besides, they first met on grand final day in 2013, so it seemed fitting.

“We bought tickets months ago and it’s just a massive bonus that it’s worked out like this,” Mrs Dole said.

“I’m getting goosebumps just talking about it.”

Speaking from Melbourne, Mr Dole said the past week felt like a dream come true.

“I couldn’t have picked anyone better to share it with,” he said.
